3-Hour Class (2 hours in the class, 1 hour on the range)
Minimum Participants: 5, Maximum Participants: 10
This course will introduce the student to competitive shooting sports using IDPA as a model. The student will learn how to draw from the holster safely and efficiently while wearing a concealment garment (while in the classroom only). They will also learn how to reload ‘on the clock’ (while being timed). Instructors will explain, demonstrate and practice ‘emergency’ and ‘tactical’ reloads. Students will also be taught how to approach a course of fire efficiently; how to shoot from cover while ‘slicing the pie’; how to shoot quickly and accurately while under (time) pressure. IDPA scoring will be explained and how shooters can use it to their advantage.
IDPA and USPSA are the major shooting sports in this country and around the world. The differences will be discussed, but more concentration will be placed on IDPA.
Students should already be familiar with their firearm. Time will NOT be spent on firearm basics. Classroom time will be spent on learning the mechanics of the sport and then implement those mechanics on the range. 150 rounds of ammo may be required. All students will be required to have a range card.
